The 8th year (14th May, 2014)
6 pm- 11 pm.

One night – many experiences.

Public readings of contemporary world literature performed by well known personalities at attractive and unusual venues in Prague and other cities across Europe.

Literature Night builds on the concept of literature being a unique creative medium which embraces the voices of individuals along with the values of the society they live in. The project aims to bring contemporary literature to the general public in an innovative way through a series of public readings and accompanying events.

The project is being coorganized and supported by the EUNIC cluster Prague (a network of foreign cultural institutes) and The Permanent Representation of the European Commission in Prague. Furthermore, thanks to the cooperation with the Association of librarians, Literature Night will take place for the second time in the same model in 23 other cities throughout the Czech Republic.

Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, the Literature Night will take place not only in Prague - the whole event will fill the streets of all of the Czech cities shown to the right (for other European cities hosting the Literature Night or its variations, please see the lower section).

The participating authors have submitted a text (800-1200 words) inspired by the theme ‘Mehr Licht! Famous Last Words’. The texts have been translated into Dutch and will appear in a book published by Cossee. This publication will be presented during the European Literature Night 2014, where the authors will discuss their texts with Dutch literary critics/journalists Margot Dijkgraaf and Jeroen van Kan.  In addition, there will be a performance by several actors inspired by the texts.
